Cattail Community Harvest Day

Join us for a hands-on day of harvesting cattail leaves, led by Renee Baumann, a crucial step in our upcoming basketry classes. This volunteer event offers a unique opportunity to:

  • Learn sustainable harvesting techniques

  • Explore local wetland ecosystems

  • Connect with fellow plant enthusiasts

  • Contribute to future basketry workshops

No experience necessary. Participants will gain valuable knowledge about local plant materials and traditional crafts. Your efforts today will earn you materials fee waiver ($20) for Renee’s Full Day Fall Basketry Class on 10/4!

Participants are to bring: clippers, waders or heavy duty rain boots, and a lunch!

Free to Reserve, Space is Limited!

4 spaces available for our Cattail Harvest Community Day in exchange for vouchers covering the $20 course materials fee for Renee's Fall Basketry Workshop (one-day session on October 4th)

Renee is a Catskills-based chef and designer who specializes in working with wild plants and fungi. She rediscovered her childhood love for basketry when she was unhappy with the sourdough bread baskets she could buy, and decided to make them herself instead. She works in many media, builds cob ovens, bakes bread and pastries and obsesses over finding and eating wild mushrooms. You can see more of her work on instagram @renee_makes_things
