Listening Party for Penelope and the Geese at White Feather Farm
This past summer, were happy to host a sneak preview listening party for Penelope and The Geese, a new kind of opera.
Penelope and the Geese, by Milica Paranosic (composer) and Cheri Magid (librettist), is a retelling of the Penelope story from The Odyssey in which Penelope, rather than waiting twenty years in celibacy for Odysseus' return, gets to explore her sexuality and her self in his absence.
During the pandemic, they, along with producer Suzanne Bennett and ShoutOut Saugerties, were able to make an audio recording of the opera at Dave Cook's Area 52 Studios. On June 28, 2021, we gathered in the Broken Wing Barn for the first public listening party of the recording.

ShoutOut Saugerties (SOS) began as an annual festival and now programs year-round, celebrating the creative spirit that shapes our unique town. Nestled between the Hudson River and the Catskill Mountains, Saugerties is a diverse, welcoming community with a vibrant population of visual artists, musicians, filmmakers, theatre actors and directors, writers, craftspeople, culinary artists, and activists.
In venues throughout the town, SOS partners with galleries, merchants, restaurants, environmental organizations, churches, schools, library, the Farmers Market and non-profit organizations to present cultural events for children and adults, residents and visitors.
