Workshop Highlights

This stunningly poetic, black-and-white portrait follows African American Centennial farmers fighting to hold on to their land and legacy in the rural South. With intertwined storylines anchored by a 142-year-old farm in Thomasville, Georgia, this Sundance U.S. Documentary winner traces their fight with the U.S. Department of Agriculture while honoring their resilience with humor, community, and sometimes heartbreak. Through Shyne's monochrome lens, Seeds invites us to consider what it takes to stay rooted and the true nature of legacy.
Brittany Shyne is an independent filmmaker based in Dayton, Ohio whose work seeks to depict the complexity of everyday life by examining themes of personal histories, alienation, and cultural modernization. She was the recipient of the 2021 Artist Disruptor Award from the Center of Cultural Power, and Seeds is her first feature documentary.

ABOUT THE FILM:
To sow good seeds is to plant possibility. Brittany Shyne’s Seeds is a stunningly poetic, black-and-white portrait of African American Centennial farmers fighting to hold on to their land and legacy in the rural South. With intertwined storylines anchored by a 142-year-old farm in Thomasville, Georgia, this Sundance U.S. Documentary winner has established itself as the gold standard in longitudinal observational filmmaking. “Farming is the backbone of the world,” says one farmer, “that’s who feeds the people.”
As the number of Black farmers dwindles due to systemic barriers and broken promises, Seeds traces their fight with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and honors their resilience with humor, community, and sometimes heartbreak. Filmed by Shyne herself, the monochrome lens heightens every gesture of resilience, reminding us that cultivating land is also an act of cultivating hope. Seeds invites us to consider what it takes to stay rooted and the true nature of legacy. – Jessica Edwards
ABOUT THE FILMMAKER:

ABOUT THE FILM:
Sasha Wortzel’s River of Grass is a meditative and visually immersive documentary inspired by the writings of Marjorie Stoneman Douglas, an environmentalist from the mid 20th century who was way before her time and who primarily wrote about the Florida Everglades. The film explores the delicate, endangered ecosystem of the Everglades—known poetically as the “River of Grass.” Through intimate cinematography and interviews with conservationists, biologists, and Indigenous voices, the film captures the slow unraveling of one of America’s most vital wetlands.
Wortzel’s film, which happens to be her feature directorial debut, is not just an environmental documentary; it’s a quiet call to action, offering a sober look at the intersection of history, industry, and the natural world. The film is also personal for Wortzel who grew up in the Florida Everglades. Her film’s tone is restrained but urgent, and like the ecosystem it portrays, the film flows with a certain mournful grace. – Adam Schartoff

SCREENING: Fatal Watch with Woodstock Film Festival
Join us for a pre-festival Kick-off Tuesday October 14th at White Feather Farm for a screening of Fatal Watch, followed by a Q&A with directors Mark Benjamin and Katie Carpenter, moderated by documentary filmmaker Pamela Yates.
About the Film:
Dead men tell the ocean’s secrets. Four marine observers vanish at sea under suspicious circumstances. This gripping investigation uncovers why. Traveling from Fiji to Ghana, Spain to the US, this powerful film reveals the dark underbelly of the global tuna trade, where profit outweighs human life and environmental destruction is buried beneath the waves.
Through exclusive footage and unprecedented access, a team of international investigators exposes the rampant criminality, cover-ups, and violence tied to industrial overfishing. As the ocean’s silent guardians’ risk everything to document the truth, their stories demand action. This is a high-stakes exposé on the hidden cost of the seafood on our plates.
About the Filmmakers:
Mark Benjamin has been an award-winning filmmaker for decades. His films have been awarded the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, the Camera D’Or at Cannes, multiple Peabody, duPont-Columbia Awards and Emmys. Benjamin made the last Bill Moyers film, “RIKERS: An American Jail” which won the RFK Advocacy Journalism Award. Benjamin founded BRICK CITY TV.
Katie Carpenter is an environmentally-focused filmmaker specializing in ocean and wildlife issues. Anterra and Peter Stone: A Dark Fantasy at White Feather Farm
Join us for an enchanting night of ethereal and haunting music from two extraordinary New York-based artists Anterra and Peter Stone. Witness the convergence of cinematic folk artistry and intimate storytelling as they weave together a tapestry of sound that is equal parts earthly and otherworldly.
We invite you to embrace the dark fantasy aesthetic for the evening. Think flowing fabrics in earth tones and midnight hues, vintage jewelry with mystical elements, or pieces that evoke forest folklore and gothic romance. Dress in what makes you feel most connected to the magic of the evening.
ANTERRA
Ethereal, evocative, entrancing. Anterra composes cinematic songs as richly earthly as they are otherworldly. With a distinct gift for world-building and a stirring, crystalline voice, her music invokes the curious feelings that being deep inside an ancient forest might.
Her music traverses between emotional folk intimacy and obsessive progressive art-pop intricacy, distinguished by captivating vocal arrangements and unique through-composed structures. With an intense, vibrato-affected voice often compared to Florence & The Machine, paired with soaring falsetto purity, Anterra offers listeners a genuinely moving experience.
Her forthcoming fairytale album Eyes on Trees (October 2025) sees her at her most inventive and powerful yet.
PETER STONE
Peter Stone crafts songs that are equal parts intimate and cinematic, energetic and evocative, familiar and haunted. With a voice like warm evening sunlight creeping through western windows, it's easy to imagine any of Peter's songs playing over the final shot of a film about love and loss.
His debut album Altar, released in August 2024, chronicles a journey of personal growth through introspective narratives, delicate guitar work, and cathartic crescendos. The self-produced album navigates themes from darkly humorous attempts at connection to mystical love stories, from struggles with addiction to grief over trauma and loss.

Slow Flow: A Dance Journey
Join us for an evening of live musical performance and meditative movement as three accomplished musicians come together to create a transformative sonic journey. This unique collaborative performance features Malerie Day, Matthew Beck, and Father Otter (Nash Atkins) in an immersive experience that bridges acoustic and electronic musical worlds.
This evening showcases a rich tapestry of live instrumentation and vocals, featuring acoustic and electric guitars, flutes, hand percussion, crystal singing bowls, handpan, chimes, gong, and layered vocal harmonies enhanced by subtle electronic production. The artists will perform continuously throughout the evening, creating an evolving soundscape that guides participants through different emotional and energetic territories.
The performance begins with a ceremonial tea service featuring organic and locally-sourced herbs, setting the intention for the musical journey ahead. The core experience centers on a live-scored meditative dance session where you are invited to move freely to the musicians' improvised and composed pieces. The evening concludes with an intimate acoustic sound bath featuring crystal bowls, gentle percussion, and ethereal vocals designed for deep relaxation and integration.

She is deeply grateful for her teachers, the teachings and the energy that flows through her.
HariPrakaash brought Kundalini Yoga and the "Gong Movement '' to the Hudson Valley of NY in a very grassroots way, by teaching out of her living room. She has inspired and guided dozens of people not only to uplift themselves and others, also to take KRI teacher trainings and become teachers themselves. She continues to inspire and uplift the individuals she teaches daily.
